Woke up twice this week to a wet carpet and pee smell by the front door… any affordable security camera recommendations?

I’ve noticed a bad smell and wet carpet by my front door twice this week. I have a letterbox flap in the door, and I think someone might be messing around with it. Does anyone know of a good security camera that doesn’t need to be wired in? Something rechargeable would be ideal as I can charge it during the day.

Google has a battery-powered doorbell that lasts about two months per charge.

Is this the one? https://store.google.com/gb/product/nest_doorbell_battery?hl=en-GB By the way, happy birthday!

Yes, and you can get a secure mount from Amazon too.

Thanks, I’ll check it out.

I use Arlo cameras. They give you a free month of service, then it’s about $100 a year. I’ve got seven cameras and no complaints.

Maybe check out Wyze.

It might just be stray cats marking territory. Try rinsing your door with white vinegar.

Sounds like someone used the old trick of sending pee through the mail slot. Maybe OP upset the wrong person!

Did you make someone mad? Jokes aside, get video footage and report it. Public urination is a crime.

I might’ve upset a few people, but I’m guessing it’s just kids.

Here’s an extreme idea: Get some old glass bottles, smash them up, and glue the shards around the letterbox flap. Then set up a tiny camera to catch it all on video.

How about a doorbell camera pointed at the ground?

Try Ring cameras.

What about a mechanism that shuts the flap hard after it’s been open for 20 seconds?

Hook it up to the mains. Problem solved.

Check out the Tapo wireless cameras with solar panels. They last forever.
