Considering smart toilets—worth the hype?

I’m considering buying a smart toilet, intrigued by features like smart bidets, heated seats, and automatic flushing. However, I’m unsure if the benefits justify the cost, especially since my time using it would be limited to about an hour daily, or maybe two after Taco Bell nights. Anyone who’s made the switch, your insights would be greatly appreciated.

Edit
I’m particularly interested in the self-cleaning feature of the Horow brand and plan to check it out.

I own a HOROW smart toilet, and it’s been worth every penny for the convenience alone, especially the bidet feature. It’s compact too, fitting well in smaller bathrooms.

Smart toilets seem overly complex and pricey for what they offer. They’re always plugged in, have many moving parts, and pose a risk of failure. Plus, the safety risks of an electrical malfunction concern me.

@Mila
Actually, mine has been low maintenance thanks to its self-cleaning feature. I haven’t experienced the issues you mentioned, and I believe these units are designed with safety in mind, likely grounded to prevent any electrical hazards.

@FortifiedFamilies
Modern bathrooms usually have GFCI outlets to prevent electrical mishaps, so safety shouldn’t be a concern with these installations.

@Mila
Consider the utility for those with physical limitations who might benefit from the automated features like bidets for personal hygiene.

I’m waiting for the day a smart toilet gets hacked. It seems everything smart comes with unforeseen risks.

I have smart appliances at home that I never use for their ‘smart’ capabilities. But it’s funny to think about.

Smart technology doesn’t always mean connected to WiFi. There are other protocols.

I was being facetious, but yes, many smart devices connect via WiFi. What protocols are your devices using?

My home is fully integrated with Z-Wave technology.

Why the hostility? Just sharing information.

My major appliances use WiFi, but everything else is on Z-Wave for better security and reliability.

Does the water pressure meet your needs, especially compared to standalone bidet units?

@Drew
The water pressure is adjustable and should be sufficient if your home’s overall water pressure is adequate.

Try an electronic bidet seat first to see if you like the features. They can then be moved to another toilet if you decide to upgrade to a full smart toilet later.

I want the ability to control my toilet via voice commands like ‘Alexa, wash my butt!’

@Nova
It’s definitely possible with the right setup. Go for it!

After buying a smart toilet from Toto, it’s become a daily luxury I can’t live without. The automated features significantly enhance comfort and hygiene.

Does it also provide a thorough cleaning after use?

It even pre-sprays the bowl to prevent waste from sticking, which is a subtle but appreciated feature.

An hour a day on the toilet seems excessive!
