Considering smart toilets—worth the hype?

A power outage at a hotel left me skeptical about smart toilets, as it couldn’t flush without electricity. A smart bidet might be a better compromise.

The flushing issue might be brand-specific. Some models have manual overrides.

@Mario
It’s possible the hotel’s water pump was also affected, not just the toilet.

@Mario
Maybe consider adding a UPS for critical appliances like toilets in power-sensitive setups?

A small power bank could suffice for short outages.

Smart appliances should function normally even without power. My mom had to replace a smart faucet for this reason.

I chose a model with a manual flush option to avoid such issues.

The idea of needing a UPS for a toilet sounds absurd but might become necessary for these advanced models.

A bidet seat offers many of the benefits of a smart toilet without the complexity. It’s a more practical choice in my opinion.

Spending an hour daily on the toilet might indicate a health issue. Also, heated seats can feel unsettling to some.

Agreed. The sensation of a pre-warmed seat can be quite off-putting, reminding you of previous users.

The luxury features of high-end smart toilets like those in Japan may be excessive, but the basic functionality like a washlet can significantly improve hygiene and comfort.

Here’s a humorous take on smart toilets that you might find entertaining.

I would prioritize purchasing a smart toilet for any new home due to the convenience and comfort they offer.

I highly recommend the Kohler Veil Intelligent toilet for its advanced features and stylish design.

While I enjoy my Kohler smart toilet, the novelty has worn off somewhat, and it hasn’t revolutionized my daily routine as much as expected.

Consider at least installing a bidet for a significant upgrade in hygiene, even if you decide against a full smart toilet.

Once you experience the convenience of a smart toilet, you’ll never want to go back to a standard model.

The bidet feature of my smart toilet has been a life-changing addition, making it impossible to consider using anything else.

If you’re hesitant, it might be best to wait until the technology improves and becomes more compelling before making a purchase.
