hi all! like i said i’m searching for a one-way film that gives privacy all day and night. my new place has loads of windows, and i’d love to keep my view without using blinds, but from the road, you can see straight in. i found films that work great in daylight, but is there anything for all-day use? or am i just looking for something impossible? any advice would be a huge help!
main problem is when it’s brighter inside than outside. haven’t heard of a film that changes that balance.
if you can control light inside, like keeping it darker than outside, maybe there’s a film that works both day and night.
@Hank
that makes sense. might have to think about adding more outdoor lighting with whatever film i pick. thanks for the suggestion!

honestly, even with lighting, night vision can still work against you. the right angle of light could help though.
@Jack
you’re right; it’s about where the light comes from, not just brightness. when light reflects off the glass, it gets harder to see in, but if you add exterior lights aimed at windows, it could help. if someone cups their hands over the glass, they might still see, but from the road, it should be fine.
@Johnstone
testing different lights may be needed…i’ll believe it when i see it!

aiming a strong light can definitely create glare. if you want to test, just try a bright flashlight from a low angle at night to see if it works.
@Johnstone
thanks, i might give it a try. also thought about trying prismatic film.

prismatic films are an idea; they can scatter light enough to stop a clear view but might not work both day and night.
@Johnstone
you guys have been awesome. thinking i’ll try the film with exterior lighting. might not be perfect, but it seems promising. planning on a camera system too for the rare close-ups.
@Johnstone
thanks for the tip! exterior lighting changes how i think about this.

i’ve got motion sensors that trigger external lights if there’s movement at night. works great!
probably doesn’t exist. have you thought about electric blinds that run on a timer?

good solution! i’ve got smart blinds linked to my smart home setup. keeps sunlight out, and also helps with room temperature.

there’s electric tinting but it’s more complicated than a film…
you can get films that kinda do this, but they’re pricier and a bit cloudy. someone once mentioned buying a bulk set from a supplier, but it wasn’t cheap at all.

sounds like interesting tech.

nothing exists that lets light go one way only.
you’re probably right, but liquid crystals might change that one day…

liquid crystals sound pretty cool honestly.
