Will 80 FPE actually stop a home invader?

I’ve been looking at options for home defense, and I’m wondering if 80 FPE is strong enough. If anyone has real experience with this or knows how effective it could be, I’d love to hear your thoughts.

No, it won’t. If you shoot someone with that, you’re just going to make them angry. Get a proper gun or find something else that can actually protect you.

Wait, are we talking about the fish or the weapon here? Either way, it’s hilarious.

In that case, get creative. A sword, a pike, or even a really loud Nickleback playlist might work.

Cue up ‘Hero’ by Nickleback… I’m ready to defend my home!

If you can’t get a gun, try a baseball bat. Simple and effective.

@DavidMachineLearn
If you can’t legally own a gun, then you need to fight for your right to defend yourself. It’s a basic human right.

@DavidMachineLearn
Get a big dog and a Bowie knife. And maybe set up some cameras and a safe room.

People keep saying airguns aren’t enough, but let’s get real—physics and biology don’t lie. Check out this chart on airgun FPE lethality: AIRGUNS FPE LETHALITY CHART - THE POWER OF MODERN AIRGUNS – AirGun Tactical. Sure, guns are better, but not everyone can have one.

I keep hearing people say it takes 55 FPE to pierce a human skull. Is that true?

Yes, the Army sets the threshold at 58 FPE to be safe. So, 80 FPE is definitely in the lethal range.

I have a Huben GK1 .25, and it’s definitely strong enough to penetrate a human skull. Not my first choice for home defense, but for some of us in Europe, it’s the best we’ve got. It’s better than nothing, and it can do the job.

@Wallace
No shotguns allowed in Europe with rock salt loads?

Why not just learn a martial art? I’ve been boxing for years, and it’s great for self-defense. If you’re really concerned about home defense, consider something like a tactical shotgun. But honestly, if all you’ve got is 80 FPE, it’s better than nothing.

So it’s basically like using a .22 pistol. Unless your home is being invaded by soda cans, I’d say no.

Can you legally get bear spray where you live? That might be a better option if guns aren’t allowed.

That’s actually a great idea. I’ll look into it. I think spraying someone with it might be illegal here, though.

@TomHenry
If you can get it, try to find one that comes with a practice can. It’ll help you get used to how it works.

If 80 FPE is your only option, it’s better than nothing. But remember, this is only going to work under ideal conditions, like if the intruder is close and not shooting back. Strengthen your home security and try to avoid getting into a situation where you’d have to use it.

@Lily
In lieu of a firearm, yes, it’s a reasonable choice for home defense.
