Why can’t we just pin a “try home assistant” thread here?

Every time I suggest something other than HA, I get downvoted. Even forums for other platforms have become Home Assistant forums in disguise. It’s especially bad on the Apple Home board, where people with basic questions get flooded with ‘Just use HA.’

Because of course, the best way to change a light color is by setting up HA with Homebridge!

@Stephen
Have you tried switching your whole profile over to UniFi?

Oh, UniFi fans can actually be worse! They’ll drop tons of jargon and wonder why their setups don’t work, while I’m fine with a simple Linksys setup.

Most people here haven’t tried multiple hubs, and that makes a difference. I love my Hubitat hub and don’t see the need for anything else.

Everyone has their favorite, and it’s worth doing research before accepting advice from anyone. It doesn’t matter what other people think; it’s about what you actually need.

To be fair, HA gets brought up so much because most people come here with broad questions instead of specifics. HA can cover just about anything, while other systems might work in some cases, but HA can handle it all.

HA is good, but it’s not the only answer. Maybe this forum could pin a ‘why local automation is better’ thread, explaining options like HA, Hubitat, and HomeSeer.

Local vs. cloud is an important topic. There’s so much misinformation, especially about Apple Home’s local capabilities.

@Stephen
Exactly. A pinned post could set things straight.

No point in going into a forum like this with your own ideas. They’ll just give you the cold shoulder if you don’t follow the home assistant rulebook.

Also, don’t ask questions that make you seem clueless. You’re expected to be an expert here and follow the unspoken code. Have you even set up custom firmware and modified your config yet?

@Garrett
Honestly, HA has made big strides in making the UI simpler. You don’t need to touch YAML configuration as much, even though some of the ‘old guard’ might prefer it that way.

I feel like they’re holding back smart home acceptance. It’s like asking for family car advice and being told, ‘Just get a kit plane!’

If you were really in the car forum, the answer would be a ‘factory-used, manual, brown Miata wagon.’

It’s worse because you can’t escape those opinions anywhere here. Seems like everyone has to fit the same mold.

You could also try openHAB.

I use smart home devices but can’t stand HA. I’m just trying to keep it simple here.

I thought about HA, but the dedicated hardware is just so expensive. Why the high cost?

I pretty much left this forum for that reason. I don’t like HA, but I keep getting lectured by fans.
