Why can’t we just pin a “try home assistant” thread here?

Honestly, it’s getting pretty over the top in this forum. Nearly every answer is just “use home assistant.” It’s like this forum barely has any other advice left besides “get home assistant.”

Maybe check out the Home Assistant section on this forum for better luck.

Home Assistant? Hoooooooome Assistant! starts chanting HOOOOOOOOMMMEE ASSISTANT!

How about just setting a Home Assistant routine to post that thread every day?

It’s kind of like the HTPC forum where people ended up just saying, ‘Just get an Nvidia Shield.’

In both cases, the answer became standard because other options didn’t make sense unless you had a unique setup.

HTPCs are still around? Built one years ago before smart TVs and streaming sticks.

Exactly. Some people still love building HTPCs, not realizing that streaming platforms today make using a PC more trouble than it’s worth for most folks.

Sure, there are some cases for HTPCs with custom filters like MadVR, but it’s mostly a lot more hassle than other options today.

@EvansBrown130
Honestly, most people looking for an HTPC setup would be better off with a NAS that can run Plex and store Blu-rays.

Honestly, Apple Home is the best and easiest option for the average person. Constantly pushing HA just drives people away from home automation. There’s not much the typical user wants to do that Apple Home can’t already handle. I’ll back that opinion any day.

@Stephen
Can Apple Home even work with Z-Wave directly? That’s a pretty big gap if it can’t.

It doesn’t really need to. There’s an equivalent for pretty much every Z-Wave device that’s Apple Home compatible.

@Stephen
That’s not a fair comparison since Z-Wave itself is a system.

Z-Wave’s only pointless for Apple Home because it’s not compatible, which doesn’t make it a compatibility issue, in my opinion.

@Stephen
Well, it’s still a compatibility issue because Z-Wave has its own network. Lack of compatibility isn’t better than having more options.

You’re missing my point. Z-Wave isn’t necessary in Apple Home. The network itself doesn’t add anything to it.

@Stephen
That’s such a typical Apple response—because Apple doesn’t support it, it’s considered an advantage!

I didn’t say it was an advantage; I’m just saying it doesn’t matter. Adding Z-Wave wouldn’t bring any new functionality.

@Stephen
Wouldn’t it add options for people who already have Z-Wave devices?

@Stephen
Z-Wave compatibility lets you add Z-Wave devices you already have, or ones with unique features. It gives you more flexibility.
