What steps are you guys taking to secure your homes?

Are you using one of those home security systems that are constantly monitored, like ADT, SimpliSafe, Ring, etc.? Or perhaps you’ve opted for a more do-it-yourself approach with cameras and sensors? Maybe you rely on a noisy dog as your security measure? Or is it simply a matter of locking your doors when you’re away and considering that sufficient?

As a new homeowner myself, I’m grappling with the same dilemma. The array of options is overwhelming, and at times, it feels like investing in these systems might just buy peace of mind rather than actual protection. Yet, the thought of having no security measures in place seems risky. What solutions have proven effective for you all?

Lighting is a big one. Make sure to check around your home for dark spots. Places people can also hide like bushes, dark alleyways, behind fences.

Lock your garage if you don’t already if you have one and all doors and windows.

Make it a habit for everyone in the family to lock doors. Many times a thief will try doors.

Also, install a doorbell camera. You never know what you may catch.

Start talking to neighbors as well. Sometimes period see and hear things others don’t.
