What PTZ protocol works for this Hikvision camera?

I just set up a Hikvision DS-2CE57U7T-VPITF with my DVR for the first time, running it in CVI mode. The camera is displaying a picture, but I can’t get PTZ controls to work.

My DVR has options to change the PTZ protocol, baud rate, and other settings, but there are a lot of choices. The camera manual doesn’t specify which one to use, and the default setting (UTC) isn’t working.

Anyone know the correct settings?

Thanks in advance!

Edit:
Turns out this isn’t even a PTZ camera. This is the first fixed dome camera I’ve seen that doesn’t support UTC for accessing the menu. Why even make a non-PTZ dome cam instead of just a turret? The thing doesn’t even manually rotate 180°.

Go into the camera menu and check the PTZ protocol settings. It’s probably set to Pelco by default, but you’ll need to match the settings in both the camera and DVR for it to work.

I tried, but my DVR won’t pull up the menu either.

@Jake
There are two places where PTZ settings need to match for control to work (assuming your wiring is correct):

  1. In your DVR/NVR settings, each camera should have PTZ configuration options. If the camera is showing a picture, you’ve already accessed this menu at least once.
  2. In the camera itself, there should be a settings menu for PTZ configuration. If it’s an IP camera, you can usually access it through the web interface. If it’s analog, the manual should list the correct settings.

If you can’t access the menu at all, check the manual for the default PTZ settings and set your DVR to match.

@Brent
The only menu I can access is the physical toggle on the camera for switching between CVI/AHD/TVI modes.

The manual only mentions “Communication: Hikvision-C,” but that isn’t an option on my DVR.

Edit: Did some digging—turns out my DVR is a Hikvision OEM, but somehow it still doesn’t support this model. I’m just going to stick with a standard non-PTZ UTC camera.

It’s been a while since I used one of these, but I remember there being a small joystick-type control attached to the camera’s cable. If you press it straight down, it should bring up an on-screen menu where you can check and change settings.

I don’t think this is a PTZ camera. The product link says ‘fixed dome,’ and there’s no mention of PTZ control anywhere.

What made you think it had PTZ capabilities?

You’re right—I looked at so many camera specs that I missed that. Most fixed cameras at least support UTC for accessing the menu, but this one doesn’t.

As for why I assumed it was PTZ—if it’s a dome camera, wouldn’t it usually be PTZ? Otherwise, what’s the point of a dome over a turret cam?

@Jake
Same concept, but domes offer more protection for the camera.
