What parts should I get for a door security bar?

I’m trying to figure out what parts to get for a door security bar. I came across some ideas but wanted to see if anyone here has suggestions. Does anyone know what works best or where to get them?

You should check out FlipLok. It’s a simple solution and works really well. You can take a picture of the side slots and use Google’s image search to find similar parts. I’d also suggest checking Home Depot or Lowe’s—they usually have a good selection.

@Roman
Can FlipLok be used on both sides of the door? I know someone who works in security, and they always say the hinge side is the weak point.

FlipLok is only for the lock side, not the hinge side. If you try to use it on the hinge side, it won’t work right—it might even block the door from closing. For hinge side security, you can get security pins, which are pretty affordable on Amazon or at a hardware store. You can also use steel cotter pins from Home Depot. Check out a video on YouTube called ‘exterior door security hack’ for more tips.

Another option is Door Armor, which strengthens both sides of the door. If you’re thinking of upgrading your hinges, go for stronger ones, but be careful. Thicker hinges might need adjustments, and it’s better to hire someone who knows what they’re doing if you’re not confident in your skills.

Appreciate the advice. I’ve looked at FlipLok, and it does have a cleaner look compared to other options. This is for an outward-opening door, though, and I noticed that FlipLok has an outward-opening model, but it doesn’t seem to have as many reviews. I’m not sure if it’s as reliable.

@Dustin
I actually use both versions since my laundry room door opens outward into the garage. It’s a solid lock, and I haven’t had any issues with it.

Not 100% sure, but if you get it for the lock side, you could try it on the hinge side as well. It’s a sturdy lock and might work for both.

Thanks for the tip. I’ll give it a try and see how it works.
