About three months ago, my doorbell camera recorded a car pulling into my driveway around 3:30 a.m. The driver rolled down their window and pointed a flashlight at my door and camera. It seemed strange—why would anyone do that at such an odd hour? At first, I thought maybe they were looking for a lost pet, but shining the light at my door felt off. I didn’t think too much about it at the time and moved on.
Now, three months later, the same thing happened, but this time at 5:50 a.m. It was the same car, and the driver did the same thing with the flashlight. But instead of just backing out, they drove through my front yard. I reported it to the police, and they said they’ll be patrolling the area and keeping an eye out for this vehicle.
What do you all think is going on? And what else can I do to make my home safer?
I used to deliver newspapers really early in the morning. Sometimes I’d need a flashlight to find the right house number. It’s good to be cautious, but maybe it’s something harmless like that?
I go for walks really early, sometimes around 4:15 or 4:30 a.m., and I’ve seen Amazon drivers in personal cars using flashlights to find addresses. It might be something like that.
ETA: Someone mentioned Amazon Flex, and that’s likely what it is.
@Laurence
That makes sense. It could be a delivery driver or something similar. What throws me off is how they drove through my front yard instead of reversing. That part felt really weird.

Think about who might be taking these overnight jobs. Not to bash anyone, but they probably don’t vet workers too carefully for these gigs.
You should think about getting a license plate camera or one that can catch plates at night. It’d be useful since the car stops long enough for you to capture some details when they do this kind of thing.
@Isaiah
Having a license plate camera is super useful. A lot of people doing shady stuff, like stealing packages or checking doors, are careless enough to use their real plates but will wear masks to hide their faces.
