What are some affordable and useful smart home gadgets I can gift my dad who loves smart home tech?

We have a basic setup at home that includes an Alexa device linked to our TV and lights. I’m looking for other smart home gadgets that could be useful gifts for my dad. Any suggestions would be appreciated, ideally under $100. However, I’m open to pricier options as well since I can share the cost with my mom.

A water or flood sensor might not be glamorous, but it can prevent thousands in potential water damage.

He might appreciate more smart plugs. Kasa makes some good ones. If you’re willing to spend more, Nanoleaf Elements lights are stunning and versatile for decorating.

Consider the Aquanta Water Heater Sensor and Controller, which is compatible with Amazon Alexa.

It might seem a bit expensive, but it offers granular control over your hot water settings, which can be a big plus for energy saving and convenience. People invest in solar panels for similar long-term benefits.

Exactly, and while not every smart home gadget may offer a quick return on investment, the customization and control they offer can make them worthwhile for enthusiasts.

The real joy in smart homes is the automation—like adjusting lights, security settings, or the HVAC system without a second thought. These conveniences, though minor, can significantly enhance everyday life.

@Reynaldo
Glad to provide the suggestion. Deciding its value and utility is up to the person who might use it.

A smart fan like the Dreo can be incredibly useful for managing air circulation, especially on hot days.

Agree on the Dreo, very effective.

A smart fan sounds perfect for our TV room.

The Dreo fan has been a game changer in my home too!

If you have blinds with a chain roller, consider automating them. Also, the BroadLink RM4 Pro lets you control infrared devices, which I use for the TV lift at my bed.

I’ve been looking for a good automation solution for my roller blinds here in the UK. Any brand suggestions would be helpful.

@Peter
I believe it was something similar to this smart device from Amazon which can automate your blinds effectively.

Thank you!

He might like the Meross garage door opener and Aqara smart buttons, which require a hub but can be a great addition to any smart home system.

What ecosystem does he prefer? A video doorbell compatible with Alexa might be a great addition and many are available under $100.

Consider the HomeAssistant Green or Yellow as a new hub, or perhaps the Homey for a simpler setup.

I recommend a zigbee hub like Sonoff ZBRidge-U and accessories such as lights and plugs. Zigbee won’t overload your Wi-Fi and offers a variety of devices to choose from.
