Vivint system keeps ringing, what could be causing this?

My grandma has a Vivint home security system, and it’s mostly worked fine with a few minor issues. But recently, I woke up and heard a ringing sound. At first, I thought I was imagining it, but when I walked closer, it got louder.

I thought it might be the smoke alarm, but when I asked my grandma if it normally does that, she had no idea what I was talking about. I showed her, and we realized the sound is coming from the security system.

There are no alerts or messages on the screen, and it’s not making a typical alarm sound—just this constant ringing. Has anyone experienced this before or know what might be causing it?

If your grandma didn’t hear it at first, it could be that the sound is at a frequency that’s harder for some people to hear. But without more details, it’s hard to say what’s causing the issue.

Does the Vivint system display any messages? If you have the Vivint app, check if there are any alerts or status updates. You can also try calling Vivint’s monitoring center to see if they received any signals from your system.

She heard it, I just had to wake her up first. And no, there are no messages on the screen. It’s just making this constant ringing sound.

Got it. Have you checked the app to see if there’s any status update? If the alarm is making noise but not displaying anything, it could be a low battery warning or a communication issue with the monitoring service. If Vivint is monitoring your system, they should be able to check what’s going on.

The sound is just like the high-pitched ringing you hear in movies when a loud explosion happens. It’s driving me crazy.

If you’re absolutely sure it’s coming from the Vivint system, check if your internet connection has been reset recently or if the backup battery in the system is low. A system battery warning or loss of connection can sometimes cause a continuous tone like that.

If your aunt has the Vivint app, ask her to check for alerts—there may be something in the app that explains what’s happening.

@Fletcher
Yeah, we put our ear to it, and it’s definitely coming from the security system. We just replaced the smoke detectors, so it’s not them. My aunt has the app—I’ll ask her to check.

That’s a good idea. If the app doesn’t show anything, the issue is likely a low system battery or a lost connection to the monitoring center. If your internet password changed recently or you got a new modem, the system might have lost its connection. Otherwise, replacing the backup battery in the panel might fix it.

@Fletcher
Ok, I’ll check.

Can you record a video of the sound and upload it? That might help identify what’s causing it.
