Upgrading old security cameras … how do I work with these cables?

I’m trying to upgrade my old camera setup. The cables run through walls, beams, and metal conduits outside, so replacing them feels nearly impossible. Here’s the wiring I’m working with: Amazon link. Any advice on making this upgrade work without pulling all new wires?

What kind of DVR and cameras do you have? If those cables from the link are in good shape, you might be able to use HD analog systems like TVI or CVI. These can handle resolutions up to 5MP or even 8MP (4K) at lower frame rates. Brands like Hikvision or Dahua are worth checking out. Let me know what your current setup looks like, and I can suggest something more specific.

Thanks for your help! I checked my Amazon order history, and it looks like I bought a Zmodo PKD-DK4216, though the cameras don’t match that exactly. Here’s a picture of the NVR: Imgur link. There’s also a power splitter for the red cables. I swapped in an Evtevision box a while back but kept the same cameras. It’s having hardware problems now, so I’m thinking of upgrading everything instead of just fixing the box.

@Jordan
Got it. Yeah, anything HD analog would be a big improvement. Here’s a Hikvision kit I recommend: Hikvision DVR and 4MP cameras. It comes with 6 cameras, but you can use just 4 and keep the others as spares. You can reuse your existing cables—just replace the DVR and cameras. If the power adapter isn’t compatible, you might need to swap that out too. What do you think?

@Eugene
Thanks for the link. My current cameras are so bad it’s like watching a potato on screen. Are there specific features I need to look for to make sure this works with my old cables? Should I prioritize TVI over CVI?

@Jordan
TVI is a good choice since it’s more commonly used now. CVI is fine too, but it’s not as popular. AHD is another option, but those systems usually max out at 1080p. Stick with TVI for higher resolution and better compatibility with newer tech.

If you’re using these cables, you might want to double-check their quality before upgrading your system. Fakespot is pretty critical of the reviews.
