Upgrading Ademco Vista-20SE: Touchscreen Keypads & Remote Access?

I have a fully wired security system with door sensors, motion detectors, fire alarms, and noise detectors, all running on an Ademco Vista-20SE panel.

I’m currently upgrading my home network and smart devices, and I’d like to modernize my alarm system while keeping the existing wiring in place.

A few questions:

  1. Keypad Upgrade: Can I replace my old keypads with something more modern, like a touchscreen? I found the Honeywell 6290W Touchscreen Keypad—would this work with my system?
  2. Remote Control: I’d like to arm/disarm the system remotely via Wi-Fi. I read about the Envisalink EVL-4EZR IP module—would that be compatible with my setup?
  3. Ethernet Port: There’s an unused Ethernet port inside the panel box. Can this be used for network connectivity, or is it meant for something else?

Would love to hear any advice or experiences from others who’ve done similar upgrades!

Have you considered upgrading to a Vista 20P and adding an SEM module?

What’s an SEM module?

What’s an SEM module?

It’s an Alarm.com communicator designed for Vista and DSC panels. It allows you to control your system remotely, arm/disarm, and integrate automation devices. You can also access Alarm.com cameras through the same app, making it a seamless experience.

If your system is monitored, your security provider should be able to set this up for you.

I have Google cameras now, but I’m planning to switch to Unifi. Is there anything specific I should look for?

Just to clarify—monitoring refers to an alarm service where operators respond to alerts and contact authorities. Surveillance (cameras) is a separate system that records footage but doesn’t dispatch help.

If you’re switching to Unifi cameras, just make sure you have a reliable NVR setup and enough storage for your needs.

You might want to look into the Eyezon interface. It lets you control everything from your phone, and it’s a simple, cost-effective solution.
