Switching from ADT to Ring or another system, any recommendations?

Hey everyone, my ADT contract is finally ending, and I’m looking to switch to a self-monitored or lower-cost system. My friend suggested Ring for self-monitoring, but I’m wondering if I can reuse any of my current ADT equipment.

Here’s my current setup:

  • AIOGENPAN Command touchscreen panel
  • SIXCOA carbon monoxide detector
  • SIXSMOKEVA smoke detector
  • SIXCTA door/window contacts
  • SIXGBA glass break detector
  • L4 LITE CMD outdoor cameras

I’m open to all recommendations as long as they don’t involve sticking with ADT. What’s the best way to move forward?

Check out SuretyHome and the IQ 4 panel.

Unfortunately, everything you have is locked to ADT and can’t be used with another system. Ring and other consumer-grade setups aren’t as reliable for real security or fire/CO protection in my opinion.

@Sylvester
Appreciate the info. I’ll look into it.

I’d recommend getting the IQ 4.

Unfortunately, your ADT system is completely locked down, so you won’t be able to use any of it elsewhere. Ring would still be a downgrade, though.

Why do you say Ring is a downgrade?

@Richard
For one, Ring’s smoke and CO detectors are only meant for supplemental coverage, not primary life safety. It says so in the documentation that comes with them.

If you want to keep it simple, check if your cameras support RTSP or another open standard. If so, you could repurpose them with a different security setup like Blue Iris or Home Assistant.

I switched from ADT to Abode. It’s DIY-friendly and has good monitoring options without locking you into a long contract.
