Smoke alarm recommendations?

I am about to lose it. When I moved into the house last fall, I asked my folks for smoke alarm recommendations, and they suggested Kidde. I regret getting them because they’ve woken me up in the middle of the night for the fifth time this month. These are brand-new alarms installed in September, and they keep screaming about some mysterious fire when there’s none. Not a hint of smoke anywhere!

I’m not sure if it’s because the house is older and that’s triggering the alarms. I hope to get some advice from fellow internet strangers on what kind of smoke alarms might be better. I’m considering Nest since I’ve heard good things. My folks mentioned that Consumer Reports recommended Universal Security Instruments MIC3510SB. I don’t know if that’s worth it at this point. I’m exhausted from these alarms going off at night. I work from home, so what if the alarm goes off during a work call? Any recommendations on smoke alarm would be greatly appreciated.

I use the X-SENSE smoke alarm, the wireless model, which is simple to install and has a ten-year battery. So far, there have been no false alerts.

Oh man, I feel your pain. I had the same nightmare with my old alarms, going off like crazy for no reason. It’s like they’re out to get us, right? I ended up switching to Nest, and let me tell you, it’s been a game changer. No more midnight panic attacks, and they’re pretty smart about false alarms. If you’re tired of the Kidde drama, Nest might be worth a shot. You deserve some peace, especially during those work calls.
