Ripping out old ADT system… keep it or toss it?

Vista-20P clone, as others mentioned, with some ADT features you can change. Could still make a few bucks on it, but you’d probably want to reset it first.

If everything’s still working, you might get someone to buy the Safewatch Pro 3000EN with the sensors, keypads, etc. You won’t make a fortune, but you could get a bit of cash and keep it out of the trash.

My in-law runs an alarm company…might be interested in buying some of it off you.

If you add an alarm.com SEM module, you can get monitoring for about $35. This panel is more reliable than many DIY systems, especially with anti-jam tech for added security. Hardwired setups like this one are long-lasting, and newer systems often don’t last as long.

Why not just keep it as a backup? It could act as a decoy if nothing else, adding a bit of extra security.

If you know a bit about programming, you could sell it, but keep in mind some ADT features might be locked.

I’ve been a tech in alarms for 30 years. While ADT systems like Command have fewer issues, I can say they haven’t been around as long. They’re designed well, but all companies look out for profit first. ADT’s system isn’t like a DIY tablet-based alarm… it’s designed with long-term reliability in mind.

I’d probably just toss it. ADT panels aren’t much use to others since they’re pretty proprietary. But if the wiring’s good, it could work with other systems.

Actually, the Safewatch Pro 3000 is just a Vista 20p with an ADT label. Another company can easily take over and monitor it.

@Allen
Right, I’ve heard that. The ADT chip is just a tweaked version, so it’s not locked down.

Exactly. It doesn’t limit you; it just adjusts some settings. All can be changed.

@Kara
Got it, thanks for clarifying.
