I recently moved into a house that’s fully wired with an old ADT system (Safewatch 3000). It has door, window, and motion sensors, along with two pretty outdated panels. ADT quoted me $80 a month for monitoring, which feels way too high for what I need.

I’m not really interested in professional monitoring; I just want to be able to keep track of what’s happening (doors opening, windows, etc.) through my phone. Ideally, I’d like to convert the system into something more modern and smart without breaking the bank—I’m not keen on spending almost a grand a year.
