Hi, I have various remote-controlled devices in my room, including a projector, TV, and lights, each requiring its own remote. I’m exploring a solution that would allow me to consolidate all remote signals into a single hub. This hub would then relay commands based on voice instructions from my iPhone, such as ‘turn on the TV.’ I’m considering building a signal cloner with Arduino and integrating it with Blynk to eventually create Siri shortcuts. Are there any alternative solutions or products that could achieve this?
Considering this is a smart home subreddit, wouldn’t a central smart home hub be a better solution?
I use the Broadlink RM4 to control my 5.1 receiver via IR, which is connected to Home Assistant. My TV is also directly controlled through Home Assistant. Additionally, I have a Zigbee remote linked to Home Assistant for easier control without needing a phone or voice commands.
For about $12 on Amazon, you can get an IR blaster that works with the Smart Life app, which can be linked to Google for voice control. This setup supports numerous brands, and you can program any IR remote to the device. I’ve used it for four years without issues.
Building a custom solution with a Raspberry Pi or another single-board computer could give you total control over your devices. It may require more effort but offers full customization.
Some Aqara hubs come with IR blasters, like the M2. You can add your devices via the Aqara app, which supports a wide range of appliances. I use it for my LG TV and old digital speakers. It’s basic but effective. Aqara Hub M2

Seriously? Universal remotes have been around since the 1980s. Are you new here to planet earth?

Universal remotes are becoming obsolete, especially with the discontinuation of products like the Harmony. Harmony Universal Discontinued

One For All remotes were great because of their hackability and community support. However, most new devices use RF, which needs a different approach. I’ve managed to consolidate control to a single remote in setups where only one media device is used.

Using CEC and Home Assistant, I’ve managed to reduce to a single remote in my setup with Roku.

Yes, but those ‘old’ universal remotes don’t fit the needs of users who primarily stream content and don’t use complex A/V systems. Smart TVs often suffice for these users. Home Assistant Guide
