Lorex fusion 4k… or Reolink 4k?

I’m new to security cameras and have been reading a lot. For what I need, either the Lorex or Reolink would probably work. Both are NVR cameras.

I need help with a few things:

  1. How secure is NVR access from the internet? Do they support secure VPNs? I want to avoid port forwarding.

  2. Which system has better quality overall?
Lorex is from Costco, and Reolink is on Amazon. Any advice?

Just an update – I decided to go with Lorex. It has a better viewing angle, higher IP rating, two-way audio, siren, and I can add two WiFi cameras later to the same NVR. The P2P setup is pretty similar to Reolink. I’ll handle the VPN setup later.

I’ve installed Lorex for commercial clients, and honestly, it’s terrible!

Really? Can you explain what went wrong for you?

Sure, the app often wouldn’t connect or load footage. Playback was a nightmare. Live view worked for a bit, but eventually, even that stopped. Plus, manual DVR updates and clueless customer service left clients frustrated.

I got the Lorex 893DD cameras with the fusion system from Costco, and the night vision was terrible. If someone walks by, they look like a ghost—you can see right through them to the background. The camera is only 15 FPS. It’s decent during the day but useless at night unless you have motion-activated lights. I returned it and got a Lorex Nocturnal system with the LNE9242B cameras. Still waiting to see if it’s better. If not, I’ll return that too. Two-way audio and sirens don’t matter much to me… solid recording quality is what I need.
