Looking for advice on good home cameras?

I’m in Canada and need recommendations for home security cameras. Here’s what I’m looking for:

  • 3 cameras
  • Wireless with good battery life
  • HD video and night vision
  • Cloud storage, but no subscriptions please
  • Budget around or under $350 CAD

Any suggestions?

Check out Reolink for WiFi or solar-powered cameras. They’re decent, but wired ones are usually better.

Will it get the job done?

Why are you set on wireless?

I don’t know how to wire them myself lol.

If the guide I sent earlier is still confusing, you could always hire someone to install it for you. But if you’re okay with the drawbacks of WiFi cameras, Reolink and Eufy are solid options.

Wireless cameras have their downsides—they can be affected by WiFi jammers, may miss recordings, don’t usually support 24/7 recording, and can be lower quality. Wired PoE cameras are much more reliable.

Here’s a simple guide for setting up a wired system:

  1. Get a Cat 5e or Cat 6 Ethernet cable (preferably 100% copper). You can buy them pre-assembled with RJ45 connectors.
  2. Use a PoE NVR (network video recorder) or a PoE switch along with PoE cameras.
  3. Connect it like this: Router → PoE switch or NVR → Camera.

That’s it. Your camera will be ready to go.

@Sarah
Thanks! I’ll look into it.

What about Ring cameras?

No way. Ring is overpriced and not worth it.
