Just moved in… can I use this old alarm system?

Noticed some leftover alarm system parts in my new place. Anyone know what this is? Is it worth keeping or should I take it out?

Planning to install a new security setup, so would be great if any of this can be reused.

Thanks!

That looks like a GE/Interlogix Simon XTi. You could still use it, but since Interlogix went out of business, I wouldn’t put much money into it.

That is fantastic :+1:

Is it basically useless then, or could I still try to get it running? Worth keeping?

@Wyatt
It’s not entirely useless. If it has an unregistered LTE communicator, you could take it to an alarm.com dealer and set it up as a smart alarm.

But if it needs a new LTE communicator (they run around $130 if available), you’d probably be better off putting that money toward a new system compatible with your existing wireless sensors. I’d recommend the Qolsys IQ 4 panel, as others here suggested. Make sure it’s compatible with your 319.5MHz Interlogix sensors.

I’d check if it’s compatible with the Ring Alarm Retrofit kit and go that route. Even with the recent price hikes, $200/year for monitoring is still affordable.

@Gary
Since it’s a Simon XTi, which is fully wireless, there’s nothing in it that would work with the Ring Retrofit kit.

Good to know, thanks!

Since it uses GE wireless sensors, I’d suggest going with the Qolsys IQ 4, part #IQP4001. Your current sensors should work with it.

So the window sensors are still usable, but the main panel isn’t worth much?

Yep, the sensors should work if you get a panel that supports 319.5 MHz.

Looks like a GE Simon XTi. I’d replace it with a Qolsys IQ 4 since GE shut down its security division. You can reuse the GE sensors if you get an IQ 4 with the 319.5 radio. Check out the IQP4001 or IQP4004 based on cell coverage in your area.

Sensors aren’t too pricey. Might be easier just to upgrade to new tech.
