Is there a camera similar to Wyze Cam but with a battery backup option?

I currently use Wyze cameras but need one with a battery backup for power outages. Any suggestions? Preferably something affordable and standalone. I’ve considered using a trail camera alongside Wyze.

Wyze sells cameras with batteries and optional solar panels for charging. I have one mounted on a tree :slight_smile:

While I understand you’re looking for something subscription-free, Google Nest’s battery-powered cameras offer local storage to keep recording during power or internet outages.

You could use a car battery with a trickle charger and a USB car charger wired to the battery to power your Wyze cam. For a more portable solution, some USB power banks can charge and output power simultaneously.

If you prefer sticking with Wyze, the Wyze Battery Cam Pro supports continuous recording with a connected power source and has SD card support. Alternatively, you can use a USB battery pack between your current camera and the power supply.

That sounds good. Could you explain how to set up the USB battery pack? Do I connect it between the camera and the power supply?

Yes, you connect the power supply to the power bank’s charge port and the camera to one of its power ports. This setup essentially replaces the power supply with the battery pack.

Oh, so it provides continuous power and switches to battery when needed? Seems like a great solution.

Actually, it looks like you may need to press a button to activate charging. You might want to look for a model that suits your needs better.

You can use a USB battery pack or a UPS with a USB cable to power your Wyze cam. Some USB battery packs provide continuous output, which is what you need. Models that require activation are only practical if you’re nearby.

@Russell
Thanks! I didn’t know USB battery packs could do that. This solves my problem. Any recommendations?

Reolink offers battery-powered cameras that can be paired with solar panels for continuous charging. Wyze might have similar options, though I haven’t looked into them.

Wyze might have this too, but I haven’t checked their offerings.

Some battery cameras come with solar panels to keep them charged. I’m using a Reolink camera with this setup, and it works well.
