I'm new to commercial alarms… what do I do?

Hey, everyone, my company is just starting in the commercial alarm world. We’re an IT company mostly, and now we have a client asking about an issue with their alarm panel. The previous installer wasn’t very helpful, and it’s a pretty simple issue—I need to set the time on the system. It’s a Honeywell Vista Vista 128bpt, and we don’t have the installer’s code or the master code. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

You’re probably out of luck. It’s like being handed a laptop without the admin info. Does Honeywell have any reset options? You can try reaching out, but it’s like calling Comcast customer service for fun.

If they have a lot of hardwired zones, replacing the panel might be the easiest option.

If I were you, I’d recommend switching to DMP. It’s made in the US, and the app is pretty straightforward—great for any company.

Oh, one more thing—if the system is still connected to the network, the old security company might disconnect or reset it if there’s any nonpayment or disputes.

It might just be easier to replace the system entirely. For commercial customers, it’s not a huge deal.

@Freddie
Thanks a lot! This isn’t the answer I was hoping for, but it’s really good info. Appreciate the help and the awesome community here!

@Freddie
If you’re just starting out, DMP might not let you become a dealer right away.

You’ll likely need to backdoor it. What kind of communicator are you using? If you need to replace the communicator anyway, a full panel swap might be a good idea.

Would you be willing to go over the process with me? I can send you a coffee or beer as a thank you!

@Leila
Sure, send me a DM.
