I’ve got a door where the hinges are on the outside, and someone could pop the pins out to open it. It’s not an exterior door, and I’m not trying to go overboard… just want to make it harder for someone to do that. I’ve seen a few options online, but I’m a little confused about what’s best. Any suggestions? Looking for something affordable.

Thanks! I saw these mentioned before when I was looking around. Honestly, I couldn’t figure out how they worked at first.
Edit: Okay, I just looked at my door, and now it makes sense. If the hinge pins are removed, these stop the door from being pulled straight out. Appreciate the help!
I’ve come across two options for this:
-
Take out one screw from each hinge, and replace it with a steel pin that fits into both the door and the frame when it’s closed. That way, even if the hinge pins are taken out, the door stays secure.
-
Get commercial hinges where the pin is welded in place.
You could also have someone weld the pins on your existing hinges. A quick TIG weld at the top and bottom should do it.
If you’re sure you’ll never need to remove the pins, you can use liquid thread lock. Take out a pin, coat it with the adhesive, and put it back in.

But my hinge pins don’t have threads.

Doesn’t matter! The thread lock acts like glue. Just pretend it doesn’t care about threads.

Wouldn’t gluing the pins make the door stop swinging open? Am I misunderstanding something?
