I live in an area with a lot of theft, and I want to set up a metalworking shop in my breezeway. The problem is, that I’m worried about my tools and equipment getting stolen. Does anyone have ideas on how to secure the space? I also need the windows to be openable for ventilation.
You should put reflective film on the windows. It lets light in but keeps people from seeing inside. Add blinds you can close at night for extra privacy. Cameras, motion lights, and an alarm system would also help.
We’ve got a similar setup for our expensive tools, and those layers of security are worth it. You might also want to insure your most valuable equipment just in case. Oh, and change the door to something solid and secure.
Here’s a photo of how I did it: https://placehold.co/600x400.png
Look into security screens for the windows. They work like bars but are more modern and can be really strong.
Wireless sensors for doors and glass breaking would be a good idea. They’re easy to install and don’t cost much.
First project idea for your metalworking shop—build heavy-duty security screens. Use angle iron frames with expanded metal screens, and add a grid of rebar for extra strength.
