How do I lock this sliding window? Can't figure it out

Hi everyone,

I just moved into a new apartment and I can’t seem to figure out how to lock this sliding window. I know it works because I managed to get it locked once, but I have no idea how I did it! After trying for a while, I figured I’d ask here for help since I’m sure someone on this forum knows how to do it. :sweat_smile:

I appreciate any advice you can give!

Try putting a curtain rod or broomstick in the slide track of the window, right on the floor. Make sure it’s snug, and you may need to cut the broomstick to fit.

Actually, I found something to place in the slide track! It’s a little slanted, but it feels like the window is secured tightly. Thanks so much for the tip! :blush:

So the window is above the floor, and I don’t have anything to cut a broomstick or curtain rod with :sweat_smile: I’ve been trying to find something that fits the track, but no luck so far.

As others mentioned, try placing a piece of wood in the track. You can also add a small screw or something as a handle to make it easier to slide in and out. Also, check that the window doesn’t wiggle too much because it can be lifted off the track once it’s open a bit. Make sure it has a stopper too, or it can be lifted off even when closed.

@SentryHaven
Thanks for the tips! I didn’t know the window could be lifted off the track, that’s really useful to know.

I think once the window is shut, you should be able to slide the handle up vertically to lock it.
