Gen3 Nest thermostat keeps disconnecting from wifi, even brand new one

I’ve seen a lot of people mention their Gen3 Nest thermostat losing wifi connection due to a bad wifi chip. Mine started doing that after 9 years, so I bought a brand new Gen3, but it’s having the same problem. It disconnects from wifi for hours at a time. I use an eero6 Pro mesh system and disabled IPv6, but it still drops offline for long periods. Is there anything else I should try, or is it time to switch to a Gen4 or maybe an Ecobee? I also have a whole-home humidifier connected to the * terminal on my Gen3, and I’m not sure what that would translate to on an Ecobee if I switch.

Try turning off WPA3 security. Older devices that don’t support WPA3 can have problems staying connected. Keep IPv6 on, but turn off local DNS caching. Make sure UPnP is on, as well as client steering and thread.

I turned off WPA3, and everything seems to be working fine now. Even my old Gen3 Nest is back online after I put it back on the base. I’ll keep an eye on it overnight to see if it stays connected. Thanks for the advice.

@Santino
Appreciate the suggestion, I’ll give it a try.

It was working fine for most of the day, but then it dropped off again about 30 minutes ago. According to eero, the last activity was at that time. Really frustrating since it looked like it was stable.

Have you tried rebooting your router?

I haven’t today, but I do have a software update available for eero. I’ll install it later tonight once everyone is done using the internet and see if that helps. I also tried restarting the Nest by holding the button for 15 seconds, but that didn’t fix it.

I updated the eero software last night, but the Nest is still disconnecting randomly. Eero shows it was last active around 4:20 PM, but the Nest app says it’s been offline for about 14 hours. The thermostat still follows the schedule I set, lowering and raising the temperature as expected. I’m heading out of town for a few days, but when I get back, I think I’ll try switching to an Ecobee and see if that works better.
