We have the setting on where the fan keeps running after the furnace shuts off to push out any remaining warm air. But lately, we’ve noticed that the furnace kicks back on before the fan even turns off, and then the whole cycle starts over again. Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a normal thing, or could it be a problem?
Also, something else seemed off this morning. The thermostat is showing a lower temperature than it actually feels inside, and it says the furnace is running even when it’s not. The system still seems to be heating the house as needed, but it’s definitely acting strange.
That’s not normal. It sounds like your furnace might be short cycling, which means it’s turning on and off too quickly. There could be several reasons for this, like a clogged filter, a thermostat issue, or something more serious. You should have an HVAC technician check it out.

I swapped out the Nest thermostat batteries, and right away, the temperature reading corrected itself. The furnace also turned off properly this time. Maybe the Nest was just acting up because of low batteries?
The ones I had in there were rechargeable, and I might not have charged them fully. I put in fresh non-rechargeable ones, so I’ll see if that fixes things.
