Eufy without a subscription—are there feature differences?

Hi, I’m wondering if there’s a difference between using Eufy with a subscription vs just using local storage? For example, with Arlo, you only get certain ‘smart features’ (like person detection, activity zones, etc.) if you subscribe. I’m planning to buy a bundle with s300 cameras, HomeBase 3, and the e340 doorbell.

In my opinion, the cloud subscription is a waste of money.

I switched from cloud to local storage.

My cameras with local storage still have person detection, alerts, and all the other features I had with the cloud.

The only downside to cloud was that it didn’t offer continuous recording—just the short clips after an alert, which sometimes missed important moments.

@Noelle
The con of local storage is that you’re limited to around 12 days of continuous recording before it starts overwriting older footage. Also, updates from Eufy could mess up the storage cards, but that’s more on Eufy than us.

@Noelle
But with HomeBase 3, you can add a hard drive and get way more local storage.

Thanks for all your replies. I’ve officially hit the buy button ;-).

You don’t need a subscription. All the features except cloud backups are available locally and work just fine. Eufy is one of the few companies that doesn’t cripple their devices to push you into a subscription.

@Amber
You can use both cloud and local storage if you want continuous recording, especially for high-traffic areas or business use.

The only thing the cloud subscription adds is more storage. All the features come with the camera or HomeBase 3 without any need for a subscription.

I use all the features without ever paying for a subscription.

From what I remember, the subscription is just for cloud storage. You don’t need it.

All those ‘smart features’ are available for everyone on Eufy without paying extra.
