Door sensors that can handle cold weather… any recommendations?

I’ve been reading conflicting information about whether SimpliSafe sensors will work in cold weather. I’ve got a shed right next to my house, so range to the base station shouldn’t be an issue, but it’s not heated in the winter. Does anyone know of wireless door sensors that can handle the cold? Or maybe a wired sensor with a power supply that can still send a wireless signal to the base station? I’m open to ideas!

Honestly, SimpliSafe systems are kind of hit or miss. A lot of people here prefer to stay away from them.

You’re dealing with two issues: making sure the sensor itself can handle the cold and making sure the battery works in low temperatures.

As an example, the Zooz ZSE44 temperature sensor says not to use it outdoors in winter or inside freezers. I ignored that and stuck it in my garage freezer anyway. The battery dropped to 20% in two days and hit 0% within a week, though the sensor kept working for two months.

I switched to rechargeable batteries with this kit, and it’s been at 100% for the last couple of weeks. So, at least some batteries do better in the cold!
