Did Someone Try to Break in Here… or Was It Just a Lock Issue?

I recently had a lock replaced, and now I’m worried someone tried to break in. The lock seems a little strange, with the key still in it, and the lock is sticking out. Could it be a break-in attempt?

Or was it just an installation issue? Here’s a picture of it.

You mentioned the lock was replaced recently. It’s more likely that the lock wasn’t put in right, rather than a break-in.

I’d say improper installation is the issue here.

It looks like the cylinder was replaced, but it probably wasn’t secured properly. Double-check how the cylinder is installed—it’s probably a mistake from the locksmith or handyman, not a break-in attempt.

Finding keys in the lock is a pretty clear sign someone tried to get in. I don’t know what you mean by ‘this,’ though.

I think the original poster (OP) is referring to the lock sticking out, like others have mentioned, suggesting an installation problem. I assume the keys are the OP’s.

It looks like someone almost got the lock open. Be careful!

It does look like someone might have tried to break in. Have you checked your security cameras to see if anyone was around? Or maybe the lock was just poorly installed.
