Could a Camping Axe Really Work for Home Defense?

I’ve been thinking… would a camping axe be any good for defending my home if I ever needed to? I’m not sure if it’s a practical choice or just too risky.

Probably better than grabbing a broom.

Depends on the situation. If you’re close up, an axe might be hard to swing. It’s intimidating but could be tricky in tight spots.

If I had to pick something for defense, I’d go with a fixed blade knife. Full tang, with a guard that keeps your hand safe.

Knives are probably a better choice.

Might be better than nothing. Also, maybe get some pepper spray if possible.

Instant can opener for an intruder.

The handle might be too easy for someone to grab from you.

Totally… if you lose grip, it’s game over.

Had the same issue with a bat once. Someone actually tried to grab it from me.

Bear spray is honestly a good option for inside. Sure, you’ll get hit a bit too, but no one can keep going after that.

Using anything up close means the other person could turn it on you. Pepper spray in a big can might be a good backup.

How about a bat wrapped in a sock or pantyhose?

If you’re serious about something more intense, think about a sword. Look into fencing or HEMA as a hobby.

Honestly, if you show up with a helmet on, it’s probably going to scare anyone off.

Axes aren’t great in close spaces. Swords let you use the blade length better. Depending on the sword type, you’ll have more grip and options for defense. Pick one that makes sense for your home space.

Are you only restricted on handguns or all firearms?

@Davi
Good point, thanks! Guns are restricted here, but I’m in the process of getting approval. Until then, just looking for something temporary, especially with the holidays coming up. Things can get chaotic around that time.

Perfect if you’re fighting off a bear.

What are you comparing it to? What kind of situation are you expecting?

Could you use a taser? Some models work close up and can reach up to 15 feet. Here’s a link: New and Used TASER X26 For Sale

I think so. Thanks for the tip! Will check this out.

Only if you’re a pro at throwing it

Between a bat and an axe, the axe does give you some distance. But I don’t think it’s the best choice. A baseball bat might be easier to handle, or even better, bear spray so you can keep some space between you and the other person.
