Can Two Cameras Do Different Things (Free)?

The Wyze v4 is on sale right now, and it’s actually cheaper than the OG model while offering better quality.

I was wondering—if I bought two cameras, could I set one up for live feed and the other for time-lapse? I’ve read that you can’t do both at the same time on a single camera.

I 3D print, and the camera I have on my printer isn’t great. I recently had a failed print due to misalignment, and my 1fps side-angle camera didn’t catch it in time. So, I want one camera for monitoring and another for time-lapse recording.

Also, I don’t want a subscription. Are Wyze cameras even capable of doing long time-lapse recordings for free (10+ hours)?

TL;DR: If I have two v4 cameras, can I set them up separately—one for live feed and the other for time-lapse—since I’ve heard that a single camera can’t do both at once?

Yes, time-lapse is a free feature on Wyze cameras.

Each camera functions independently, so there’s no reason you can’t use one for live monitoring and another for time-lapse recording. However, keep in mind that a time-lapse recording won’t help you catch printing issues in real-time—it’s more for reviewing the entire process afterward.

That makes sense. Just to confirm—if I have two cameras, I can set one for live feed and another for time-lapse at the same time?

Yes, you can. Each camera operates independently, so you can set different modes on each one.

Also, you can check live feed while a time-lapse is running, but you can’t watch the time-lapse in progress until it’s finished and saved to the SD card.

I’ve done time-lapse recordings up to 10 hours (the max is 23 hours, 59 minutes, and 59 seconds).

You can check the live feed while time-lapse is running. You just need an SD card—no subscription required.

You don’t need two cameras just to check live feed while running time-lapse. A single camera can do both at the same time—live view still works while recording a time-lapse.

And yes, each camera functions independently, so even if this wasn’t the case, you could still use two cameras for different things.

@Jace
I just want the cheapest option, and I was under the impression that I wouldn’t be able to check live feed during a time-lapse. If that’s not the case, I might just need one camera.

I tested this on my Wyze v3, and I could view the live feed while recording a time-lapse.

I’m not sure if the v4 has any differences in functionality, but I don’t see why they would remove this feature.

@Jace
And you don’t have a subscription, right? Everything works for free?

Correct, I don’t have a subscription.

Live view and SD card recording (including time-lapse) are free on the v3. I haven’t tested the v4, but I’d assume the same rules apply unless they’ve made changes.

@Jace
Got it. I was considering the OG model since it’s cheaper, but the v4 is actually on sale for less right now. I might just wait and see if the v3 goes on sale too, since Wyze seems to be removing free features in newer models.

You can check the live feed while recording a time-lapse.

Just make sure you have an SD card, and be aware that long time-lapse recordings (10+ hours) can sometimes have issues.

The v3 is the last Wyze camera that has free cloud recordings. But regardless of which model you use, live feed and SD card recordings (including time-lapse) are still free.

Just FYI—the v4 isn’t compatible with the Wyze Lamp Socket attachment. Only the v3 works with it.
