Blue Iris picture quality vs camera app quality?

Hey, I just installed a Blue Iris system, but I’ve noticed that the picture quality isn’t as sharp compared to using the individual camera apps. One of my cameras is the Amcrest 6mm 4K 30fps (running at 20fps), and the same goes for my other Amcrest cameras, as well as a Reolink and a Sunba PTZ. The quality looks great through their own apps, but the image seems slightly degraded on Blue Iris, whether live feed or playback. Anyone else have this issue or know a fix?

Yeah, I’ve noticed that too. I think Blue Iris re-encodes the stream, while the camera apps show the raw stream. That could explain the difference.

Hmm, but I’m recording the raw stream directly to my local drive and still seeing the issue live, so I don’t think it’s just a re-encoding thing.

Have you tried turning off hardware acceleration for that camera in Blue Iris? There’s been some talk about image quality issues related to Intel acceleration lately. Could be worth checking if that helps.

@TracyJones
I turned off acceleration, but the quality is still the same. What I’ve noticed is that digital zoom on my PC looks fine, but when I use the Blue Iris app on my phone to zoom in, it gets pixelated.

That’s the downside of digital zoom in any app. Optical zoom is always better, but when you digitally zoom, you’re just stretching the pixels, so it’ll get blurry.

Yeah, I get that. It’s just weird that the camera app handles the zoom much better than Blue Iris does. I’ll have to keep playing with the settings, I guess.

I use Blue Iris on my iOS device, and I don’t have this issue. When I zoom in using the app, it stays pretty clear. All my app settings are at default though.

That’s interesting. My app doesn’t seem to handle zoom as well, but I might try resetting to default and see if that helps.
