Best options for continuous recording with local storage?

I tried Blink, and while it works as advertised, I realized I need something that can continuously record with local storage. What’s the go-to solution these days for this kind of setup?

I use a 12MP Reolink NVR. I swapped out the hard drive for a 6TB model, which gives me two weeks of continuous recording across six cameras. It’s a solid system, and I’ve been really happy with it.

Reolink is a great choice for continuous recording with local storage.

How many cameras are you planning to set up?

If you want continuous recording, Blink isn’t suitable as it doesn’t support that feature. Here’s what I’d suggest:

  1. Basic Option: Use hardwired cameras with MicroSD card slots. Install a high-capacity, high-endurance MicroSD card, and set them to continuous recording.

  2. Advanced Option: Upgrade to PoE cameras with an NVR. The NVR can handle continuous recording while flagging motion events for easy review.

  3. Premium Option: Consider Synology Surveillance Station. It supports many camera brands and can use a reduced-bitrate stream for continuous recording while switching to full-bitrate for motion events. This setup maximizes your storage capacity.

If you want a subscription-free option, Reolink and Lorex are excellent choices. Synology works with a variety of cameras but not Blink.

Lorex is another good option. It doesn’t require a subscription and supports local storage.
