Best Coffee Maker Picks - Smart or Basic, What’s Actually Worth It?

Hey everyone, I’m looking for a new coffee maker and can’t decide between going for a smart model or sticking with a traditional one. I’m completely new to buying a coffee maker, so any advice is welcome!

My budget is around $400—does anyone have any solid recommendations? Would love to hear your thoughts!

Technivorm Moccamaster.

It has a simple on/off switch, so you can connect it to a smart plug and schedule it to brew whenever you want. We prep it the night before (water, coffee, and filter) and have it set to start 10 minutes before we get up. It even has an insulated carafe to keep the coffee hot.

@Levi
Same here! The thermal carafe is amazing—it kept coffee warm for hours. I actually tried putting it in the fridge overnight for cold coffee, but it was still warm the next morning. Now I just plan ahead!

@Laura
Technivorm Moccamaster, for sure. The only thing you need to decide on is the color! Check it out: https://us.moccamaster.com/

I didn’t even know they had colors! Mine’s almost 20 years old.

@Levi
I absolutely love mine!

@Levi
This is the way to go. Excellent coffee, and no unnecessary extras to worry about. Plus, the colors are fun!

For everyday coffee, I’m a big fan of Bunn makers. We’ve had one for over 20 years.

Another Bunn fan here—mine’s going strong after 10 years. It makes great coffee in under 2 minutes!

AeroPress

If I had the patience every morning, this would be my go-to. Makes the best coffee if you’ve got the time.

V60 is a good choice if you’re willing to put in the time. AeroPress is more of a weekend treat for me.

@Hugh
V60 is great when I want a slightly faster option than AeroPress. Both are amazing, but AeroPress is harder to get just right.

Moccamaster, for sure. Great coffee, and you can make it ‘smart’ with a plug.

For bigger batches, Moccamaster. For one cup, AeroPress. If I want to experiment, I go for the Chemex.

And like others said, you can set up the Moccamaster with a smart plug.

We use a Tchibo machine at work, and I liked it so much I got one for home. It’s a bean-to-brew machine, no smart features, but it does everything I need.

Get a good grinder and a regular drip machine. Hook the drip machine to a smart plug so you can set it up the night before and start it with a timer.

French Press all the way. Simple, and it never lets me down.

Moka pot, only about $30.

Technivorm Moccamaster—this is probably the best you can get for drip coffee.

I use a smart outlet to automate mine.
