Best budget-friendly doorbell camera with no subscription fees?

I’m looking for a doorbell camera and possibly an indoor camera that meet the following criteria:

  • No subscription fees, including the ability to record 24/7
  • Affordable, preferably on sale
  • Doesn’t slow down my internet speeds (some brands seem to cause issues)
  • Recognizes humans or has customizable motion detection to avoid false alarms
  • Low cost to keep charged (if battery-operated)

I currently have an Eufy doorbell camera but noticed mixed reviews about issues with motion detection, notifications, and other features. How does Eufy compare to other brands like Blink, Ring, and Rexing? I’d also like to view my indoor camera remotely.

Any advice on which brand or system works best? Thanks in advance!

Eufy is a solid option. It offers local storage, so there are no monthly fees, and it has all the features most paid systems offer.

What does local storage mean? Can I still access recordings and live feed through WiFi remotely?

@Vito
Yes, local storage means recordings are saved on a device in your home, not in the cloud. You can access and download videos remotely via the app as long as the camera is connected to WiFi.

I use Eufy and it works great. No fees and good notifications. Just make sure to adjust the motion sensitivity, especially during seasons when things like snowflakes or leaves might trigger false alarms.

@MaryJane
I’ll second Eufy. I have the wired version connected to my doorbell wiring. It’s been reliable, even in very cold weather, though I had to upgrade my transformer to 24V for it to work properly.

Blink can be used without a subscription, but it still requires internet access since videos bounce off their servers even if stored locally. After six months with Blink, I’d consider other options first.

I like the Dahua 5MP WiFi camera. Not sure if you’re trying to avoid using WiFi, but it’s a good option for indoor or outdoor use.

Eufy works well, but the battery version doesn’t last long before needing a recharge. The wired version might be a better option if you don’t want to deal with recharging.

I’ve used the wired version for years, and it works perfectly. It’s a great option if you can connect it to your doorbell wiring.

@Reginald
Good to know! I might switch to the wired version in the future.

Check out Kuna. It’s a good option for budget-friendly cameras.

Lorex wired systems are worth considering. They’re reliable and don’t require subscriptions.

The Amcrest AD410 doorbell is a popular choice and works great with NVRs for 24/7 recording. Most people now use Reolink for similar functionality. Avoid Ring if you don’t have internet or don’t want to pay fees, as it won’t record without them.
