Anyone using IR lights for better night vision on cameras?

I’ve got a Ring floodlight for my driveway, but the light reflects off my two white cars parked in front of the camera. It makes it hard to see anything past the cars out to the street.

Has anyone here set up IR lights to help your cameras see better at night without having to rely on the floodlight itself?

Yeah, I’ve done this and it works great. I used these IR lights: Univivi Infrared Illuminator, 850nm 6 LEDs with a 90-degree angle. Here’s the link: Amazon.com.

They’re only about $22, and they’ve lasted me through some rough weather. The night vision on my cameras improved a ton after I installed them.

I’ve got the same ones. They work really well for me too.

Any IR light with an 850nm wavelength should do the trick. Just make sure to check the beam angle to match your needs.

Keep in mind this might mean turning off the floodlight on your camera since the regular light can mess with the IR.

Another option might be adding a couple of Ring battery cameras from different angles. Pair them with a solar panel to keep them charged. A battery camera with a solar panel setup shouldn’t cost more than $80. If you need more coverage, you can use a WiFi repeater in a weatherproof box to extend your signal—those are about $20.

Yes, I’ve added a few IR lights from Amazon. They’re super cheap, like $12 each. I run some off regular wall plugs and others with a solar panel and a deep-cycle battery. They work way better than the built-in light on most cameras.

Sure, here’s what I use: YZLPSYY IR Lights on Amazon. They’re sold under different brand names, but they all work the same.
