Looking for a monitored home alarm system in Canada. I don’t need cameras, just the basics like door sensors, a keypad, and monitoring. We get an insurance discount if it’s monitored. Is there anything better than Ring in Canada?
There are plenty of options. Are you mostly focused on the insurance discount, or do you want something really solid for security?

A mix of both, I guess. What would you recommend for something solid, and what about just focusing on the discount?
I don’t need cameras since I already have a good Hikvision NVR setup.
@Kenneth
Nice setup. Next question—what does your insurance company require for the discount? Some might want extra sensors like for water leaks or CO2.
If you can go wireless, Ajax is a fantastic choice. Probably the best wireless system out there, and I’d argue it’s better than Power G.
@Myron
Thanks! Never heard of Ajax before. Just looked it up—looks interesting. If you had to recommend a DIY system, what would you choose?

In Canada, I honestly wouldn’t recommend any DIY systems. In the US, there’s Surety with alarm.com, but in Canada, I don’t know of any good quality options.
Ajax is amazing, though. They’re big in Europe and just started expanding to North America. They’ve got great cameras, solid alarms, an easy app… It’s my go-to for wireless setups now.
@Myron
First time hearing about Ajax. Are they UL-rated? Can the system work with a monitoring station if needed?

Yes, they’re UL-rated. Their CCTV is NDAA-approved too.
@Myron
Sounds great! I’ll look more into them.

I don’t work for them or anything, but my rep at ADI suggested I try them out. After our first install, we changed all our future proposals to include Ajax for wireless setups. They actually care about improving their products, which is rare for legacy brands.
How much is the discount? I’m wondering if it’s worth it since these monitored systems can be expensive. I’ve got self-monitored door sensors and cameras with phone notifications and no monthly fee. From what I’ve seen, they’re almost as effective since you’ll need to be contacted either way.
@Amara
The difference in quality between DIY brands and professional systems is huge. It’s like comparing an old black-and-white TV to a modern flat-screen. Both work, but the experience is completely different.
