Anyone else heard about the Govee space heater recall?

Looks like Govee space heaters got recalled…

A screenshot is from the CPSC.GPV website.

Just got an email from Amazon saying my Govee heater is part of the recall. It turns out there’s a list of Govee space heaters that have been recalled. If you own one, here’s where to get more info and register for a refund.

These are the models affected:

H7130 (including H7130101 version)
H7131
H7132
H7133
H7134
H7135

Sold in the USA and Canada.

Does anyone know what part of the UL1278 standard it’s not meeting? Is it because you can turn it on remotely? I’m probably not returning mine just because of a voluntary standard.

Yeah, from what I read, it’s because you can start it remotely.

@Evangeline
That’s exactly why I bought it… I love heating up my work-from-home space before I even walk in! If they don’t like that, they’d be shocked I can turn on my fireplace remotely too.

I have one of these recalled heaters too… any suggestions on a good replacement?

Has anyone here tried Dreo heaters? I have a Dreo smart tower fan that I love, but I’m not sure how their heaters hold up.

Try a smart plug with a simple on/off space heater. Just avoid the models known to overheat! Seems straightforward, but good luck!

@Bright
Wouldn’t that still require turning the heater on manually? Most heaters don’t automatically restart if power was cut and then restored… they just sit there on standby. Isn’t that how most heaters work?

I really liked this heater… now I need a new one. Doubt I’ll find anything as good that’s also smart.

Why not just get a regular heater with IR and use an IR blaster to control it remotely?

That works, but it’s actually less safe because you don’t get any status feedback if something goes wrong. Just something to keep in mind.

Not gonna lie… trusting Govee with a heater feels like trusting a budget app to drive your car. Anyone else feel the same?

Honestly, I’ve had a great experience with it.

Same here! I’m definitely going to miss it.

Actually, I’ve found the build quality is way better than some other brands in this price range. It’s a shame they’re recalling them.

So what do people think about Govee’s quality overall?

The recall is mainly because of the remote start feature, which isn’t allowed anymore… but I’ve found Govee quality to be solid.

@Evangeline
That’s surprising… remote start is one of the features people buy it for!

@Evangeline
Maybe, but my Govee spotlights are always fogging up with moisture. Not ideal!

Hmm, I have about 73 Govee devices, and the only problem I’ve had was when a squirrel chewed through some string lights!

@Evangeline
The government recall page actually mentions overheating risks. The product page says it’s supposed to have overheat protection, so it’s not just about remote control.
