does anyone have good tips on keeping a window AC unit secure? worried about it being forced open…
Almost all AC units have brackets that screw into the window frame, keeping the window from opening too wide. Reinforcing it is smart, but remember, windows have their limits on security, whether they have an AC in them or not.
adding a bar to the frame works well. i also put a window sensor on mine so if someone tries to lift it, my alarm goes off immediately.
i was wondering if anyone’s tried using adhesive locks or anything else to secure it?

any luck with using a bar along the bottom edge? thinking it could work.
getting the largest AC that’ll fit and anchoring it really well to the frame works for me. maybe try sheet metal screws and some square tubing on top and bottom, then screw it to the frame on each side. if they can pull that out, they’ve earned it lol

this always works for me, there’s an AC security bracket I use. it’s called EZ-AC air-conditioner security, you might find it on Amazon.
thanks for sharing! never thought about that option before, could’ve used it sooner!
most ACs have spots to mount screws along the top and bottom to help secure them to the frame. a bar that keeps the window from opening more would be a good backup.
> they can still be broken into.
yeah, any window can be broken, even if there’s an AC in place. if you’re worried, maybe look into bars or other blockers for added security.
@Mila
any specific type of bar you’d suggest? something that’s easy to set up.

heard about adjustable bars but don’t know if they’re sturdy enough?

maybe someone here’s tried those clamp locks too? wondering how strong they are.
@Kevin
could a sliding lock work? just exploring options that wouldn’t need drilling.
has anyone tried securing the top part of the window so it can’t be pulled down?

exactly what i was thinking! i can’t use the same setup as the bottom. any tips?
using a heavy-duty bracket along with solid window locks has worked well for my AC. a strap or support bar is good for extra stability too.
if you’re looking to secure your AC unit, window locks and a reinforced frame can make a big difference. you could also put a wooden dowel or a bar in the track for extra peace of mind.
