Alarm started beeping... now there's a red light, any ideas?

So, my alarm randomly started beeping and then stopped. Now there’s this red blinking light, but everything seems fine? Batteries were changed a few months ago. Anyone know what’s going on?

Same thing happened to me last month. Turns out I just needed to change the batteries again, even though I did it recently. Have you tried that?

Yeah, changed them a few minutes ago, but it started beeping again after like 15 minutes.

@Shane
Weird. Maybe try cleaning the sensors? If you’ve painted recently, dust could be messing with it.

Had this issue a while back, and cleaning the smoke detector worked for me. Just used a bit of compressed air.

Oh, good idea. I’ll grab some air duster and try that.

Yeah, worth a shot. Also, check if the battery is seated properly.

I had a similar issue after painting my house. Dust got into the sensors and caused it to beep even after changing the batteries.

That might be it. We painted a couple of weeks ago, so it makes sense that dust could be causing problems.

@Jeremy
I had to clean mine after doing some renovations. Used a vacuum on low power, and it stopped beeping after that.

If it keeps beeping, it might need to be replaced. Sometimes these alarms just wear out after a while, especially if they’ve been in place for a long time.

How often should they be replaced? I think ours are pretty old.

@Isla
Most need replacing every 10 years. If yours are older than that, it’s probably time to get new ones.

Also, make sure the batteries are fully charged. I’ve had cases where even new batteries were faulty.
