To give a bit of background: my father’s been somewhat estranged from most of the family for over 20 years. I’m one of the few who keeps in touch with him now and then. So if I sound distant, just know it’s a complex relationship.
A few months back, there was an attempted break-in at his duplex. The intruders assumed no one was home since the lights were off, but once they realized he was there, they left. My dad’s older, and the situation could have been dangerous if they’d decided to confront him. Last year, his house was also shot at, and the bullets came within feet of him while he was inside. His place is not exactly high-security.
He’s on a strict budget and isn’t tech-savvy, so I’m looking for security ideas that are affordable, easy to maintain, and don’t have recurring fees. I can help with costs, but ideally, he’d be able to manage it on his own. I’m considering things like motion-activated lights and loud alarms. He does have WiFi (I pay for it), so WiFi-based options are possible.
Any ideas or recommendations? Thanks!
