Just moved to a new home in a generally safe area, but of course, no place is immune to issues. I’ve heard mixed things about ADT, and I used Ring previously but now hear it might not be as reliable as I thought.
Any suggestions for a solid, reliable security system? Open to both DIY options and professional monitoring.
Consider Alarm.com as a security platform; there are many providers who use it, including ADT. You might want to check out /r/alarmdotcom for more info.

We’ve had ADT since around 1995. When we moved, we updated the system but kept ADT. We’re paying about $38 a month.
When I checked on a new system quote, the rate would go up to $63 for ‘upgraded equipment’ monitoring. No changes to zones, so not sure it’s worth the extra $25 monthly just for that.
@Phillip
If you don’t have cameras, $53.99 should be the rate. ADT’s command and control system is worth checking out. I’d recommend calling a local ADT dealer.
What’s your main concern? Theft, package security, or burglary? Here’s my general advice:
Ring wouldn’t be my first choice; it’s inexpensive but not the most durable. Abode Security offers a good budget option with award-winning monitoring. It’s also flexible if you want to self-monitor.
ADT has upgraded their system quite a bit. I personally use ADT because their new setup is high-tech, and I like that it integrates with Google’s Nest cameras.
If you need more specific advice, feel free to ask!
If you don’t need monitoring, Reolink or Ubiquiti are good for in-home or cloud storage. For monitored options, ADT and Brinks can be tricky to cancel, but recent FTC rules may help with that.

With 40 years in the alarm industry, I’d recommend using a local alarm company. They’re often better for customer service and can offer the same features as the larger companies.

If you choose ADT, go with a well-reviewed local dealer. For cameras, I’d recommend buying a custom setup rather than bundled packages. Reolink POE cameras are solid, and you can set up your own system to avoid monthly fees.
