Adding a Smart Humidity Switch Without Losing Current Controls … Can It Be Done?

I’m looking to upgrade my bathroom with a smart humidity switch that automatically activates based on humidity levels. Right now, I have a single switch that controls the fan, light, and heater. Any advice on how to incorporate a smart switch while keeping the functionality of the light and heater?

You might want to consider the non-smart humidity switches. I think too many smart devices in a bathroom might be overkill.

Do they make those?

Absolutely, check out hardware stores like Home Depot.

I installed a Leviton humidity sensor from Home Depot in my bathrooms, and it’s been perfect. Here’s the link to the one I bought a few years ago: Leviton IPHS5-1LW Decora In-Wall Humidity Sensor & Fan Control , 3A, Single Pole, White - Amazon.com. It has a built-in humidity sensor and can be manually switched on as needed. No WiFi or complex setup required!

I tried a similar setup, but it didn’t work well in a larger bathroom with high ceilings. I ended up installing a new extractor fan that comes with a built-in humidity sensor for automatic operation.

Has anyone seen a setup that also controls a heater?

You might need to upgrade the fan itself if you want integrated humidity control. Check this out at Home Depot, which includes such a feature: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Delta-Breez-Integrity-Series-80-CFM-Ceiling-Bathroom-Exhaust-Fan-with-Adjustable-Humidity-Sensor-ENERGY-STAR-ITG80H/303507848

@Collin
If it’s wired to be on all the time, can I still manually control it with the existing switch?

Typically, yes, you can set it to manual override as well.

I found success using two sensors to compare humidity levels between rooms and trigger the fan when necessary.
