Wyze doorbell duo not announcing person detection through Alexa?

I just swapped out my Ring doorbell for a Wyze Doorbell Duo, and after less than two hours, I’m already thinking about switching back.

With Ring, my Alexa devices would announce “Person detected at front door” in my office and kitchen whenever motion was detected.

Now with Wyze, all I’m getting is an annoying chime sound.

Is there a way to make Alexa say a verbal notification instead of just playing the chime? Hoping someone has figured this out!

You need to enable the Wyze skill in the Alexa app, then go into the settings for the doorbell in Alexa and select which Echo devices should announce person detection.

I tried but no luck so far. Will give it another shot when I get home. Thanks for the help!

Mine announces person detection through Alexa just fine. Are you subscribed to Wyze’s premium service? You might need it for the AI notifications to work with Alexa.

There are a few things to check:

  1. Wyze notifications need to be turned on for person detection.
  2. Alexa needs to recognize it as a doorbell.
  3. In the Alexa app, check if there’s an option to toggle on person detection announcements.

I had to opt-in manually for my Alexa devices to announce person detection instead of just ringing the chime. It was a little buried in the settings.

Thanks everyone, I had to delete the Wyze doorbell from my Alexa account and re-add it. That fixed the issue.

After adding the Wyze skill, I had to go into my Alexa Home settings and make sure the doorbell was listed there. Then I manually set Alexa to announce doorbell presses.
