You can run iSpy on an unactivated Windows 10 system. It’s a straightforward setup that doesn’t require deep technical skills, and you can use your existing hardware.

Frigate is another excellent option. It’s a bit more advanced but offers superior features and performance. It runs on Linux but is manageable for those willing to learn a bit.

I strongly recommend PoE systems for their reliability and ease of maintenance. Both Reolink and Amcrest offer great options in this category.

I chose Reolink for my sister because it’s user-friendly and requires minimal maintenance. It’s important to consider the user’s tech-savviness when choosing a system.

Tapo cameras are a budget-friendly option that support local storage without needing a subscription.

Blink cameras have worked well for me without any subscription costs.

Wyze cameras are affordable and support local storage with SD cards, offering a good entry-level option.

Eufy is another solid choice for subscription-free security cameras with reliable performance.

For a DIY project, consider Yi Home cameras with custom firmware for flexible and local storage options.
