Do all new TVs come with smart features

@Laura
After moving, I had to factory reset my TCL Roku TV which then forgot all my previous settings and Wi-Fi details.

I hadn’t thought of that simple workaround, thanks!

If it never connects to the internet, it doesn’t need security patches.

It’s a common suggestion, but in my experience, smart TVs force you into their OS, which can be slow to start. I prefer a TV that lets me choose an input right away without hassle.

@Trent
An alternative launcher like Projectivy can help make your Android TV faster and ad-free. It’s made a big difference on my Sony TV.

In Europe, brands like Sharp and Bang & Olufsen still sell non-smart TVs, though the technology may be a bit dated.

Unfortunately, Sharp does not offer non-smart TVs in North America. Here are some brand new options available: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/searchpage.jsp?_dyncharset=UTF-8&browsedCategory=pcmcat1522873788991&id=pcat17071&iht=n&ks=960&list=y&qp=televisiontype_facet%3DTelevision%20Type~Non%20Smart&sc=Global&st=pcmcat1522873788991_categoryid%24abcat0101001&type=page&usc=All%20Categories# Also, did you know there are outdoor TVs?

I specifically looked for a non-smart TV and ended up buying a Sceptre 4K TV that has been great. It starts up quickly and never needs updates, although it makes a high-pitched sound after turning off.

While I agree with not connecting smart TVs to the internet, I do recommend updating the firmware if possible for better video playback.

I inherited a smart TV that I never connected to the internet, yet it somehow received an update for the remote control.

That’s exactly the kind of creepy thing I want to avoid with smart devices!

Some updates can be sent over the air along with the digital TV signal, which might explain unexpected updates without an internet connection.

There are cases where smart devices can connect to your Wi-Fi through other devices in your home. It’s a strange phenomenon, but worth reading about.

Finding a non-smart TV was difficult even back in 2016. I ended up buying a smart TV but only connect it for updates and use an Apple TV for daily use.

In Europe, smart TVs help keep prices low as streaming services pay for preloading their apps. A commercial screen without smart features is significantly more expensive.

A dedicated computer monitor would be better for your needs. It provides a clearer image for computer and video content without the smart TV bloat.

Smart TV features often become obsolete long before the TV itself. It’s better to use a separate device like a Shield, Apple TV, or Roku for a better user experience. Also, if you care about sound quality, consider getting a soundbar.

Most TVs are smart TVs now. You can buy any TV you like and simply not connect it to the internet. If you eventually want smart features without bloatware, an Apple TV is a good choice.

While Apple may not sell your data like other companies, they still collect data for their own use.

Just buy any TV and skip the internet setup during the initial configuration. This way, you can use it as a non-smart TV.
